From Lifestyle, page 55, issue no. 409, March 9, 2009
In the US, more and more people have begun to learn Chinese over the past several years. Some 3% of American primary schools set up Chinese classes in 2008, ten times than that of a decade ago. Pictured are kids in their first year of Chinese at Patomac Elementary School in Maryland. The students are learning Chinese. With that in mind, the College Board, a non-profit US educational institute began to cooperate with the Chinese Language Council in China, and have introduce some 200 Chinese teachers into the US since 2006. Despite an upsurge of Chinese learners in America, Spanish and French are still the dominant second foreign languages being studied. For instance, over 88% of preliminary schools in the US have Spanish courses.
