State Council Reshuffles Members of China's Top Energy Body

The General Office of the State Council issued a notice late last night announcing that they had officially changed the membership of China's powerful National Energy Commission (NEC). The changes simply reflect earlier personnel changes at some of China's central government ministries - so that Wang Yong (王勇), the current head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) now officially replaces his predecessor Li Rongrong (李荣融) who he took over from in August 2010. Similarly, the former head of the National Energy Administration (NEA), Zhang Guobao (张国宝), has been replaced by the new head of the NEA, Liu Tienan (刘铁男), who took over from Zhang in Jan 2011. Li Yizhong (李毅中) and Wang Xudong (王旭东), the former heads of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the State Electricity Regulatory Commission have been replaced on the commission by the current heads of those two bodies, Miao Wei (苗圩) and Wu Xinxiong (吴新雄). The NEC was formed at the start of 2010 and sets the broad strategic energy policy for the country, outranking individual ministries and commissions. Premier Wen Jiabao remains director and Vice Premier Li Keqiang deputy director of the Commission.
