Most Working Over 8 Hours a Day

Chinese employees work 8.66 hours per day on average, according to a survey of more than 30,000 people co-conducted by the Chinese recruitment website Zhaopin and the Peking University's social investigation and research center.

According to the survey, employees in Guangzhou worked longer days than workers in any other city of China covered by the survey, clocking in at just over 9 hours per day on average.

In addition to working long hours, residents of the capital of the southern province of Guangdong were also revealed to spend the least amount of time resting, with the average resident sleeping only a little over 7 hours per day.

Though employees in Beijing don't work as long as their Guangzhou counterparts, according to the results of the survey, they do face the longest commute which averages just over one-and-a-half hours a day.

Chinese employees enjoy a little over 20 hours per week on average relaxing - during which they study, play sport, do the housework and otherwise enjoy themselves.

However, most of them will choose to stay at home during their free time and most people spend less than one hour playing sport each week.
