In the last thirty years, corruption charges have been brought against almost 90 officials from the top two tiers of government –provincial and central – the Beijing Times reported Wednesday, citing the deputy director of the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention, Cui Hairong.
Cui also said that public satisfaction with corruption prevention had improved, giving a figure of 52% for 2005 and 73% for 2011, and cited China’s gains in Transparency International’s corruption perception index between 2005 and 2008.
The country scored 3.2 in 2005 and 3.8 in 2008. Its score was 3.6 in 2011.
All provinces, cities and counties in China have opened websites receiving public tip-offs and the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention received 1.34 million tips in 2011, prompting over 137,000 investigations.
