Senior NDRC Official Supports Existing Hukou System

Yang Weimin, secretary general of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said yesterday that China should maintain its current household registration system (Hukou system) and limit the number of rural migrant workers registered in urban areas. Yang argued that any reforms to the system should be implemented gradually in order not to over burden any cities with an influx of migrants.
